In the style of John Milton
Oh, cursed day! When all that filled us with life and goodness became confusion and wondering. In ignorant bliss we lived but now to death we usher; for love of that which we did not know drove us to walk where we were forewarned not to tread. Oh, beautiful bliss and life of God! Why did we seek to attain it? Why not instead submit to the One who gave life, and all things good? Why not serve Him in humble obedience and forgo the sin that now separates us? We are but dust and now to dust shall return. The peace that dwelt in our minds and hearts has been turned into confusion. What we once knew in perfect simplicity now seems foreign and troublesome. The paths that once were walked are lost to us and ever the deep separation from Him who gives life haunts our minds and hearts. Oh, perfect Creator! Why did we forsake Thee? Why did we wonder about that which we did not know? Now, justly, Thou hast cast us from thy presence unto death. Upon us and all our fated descendants now lies woe and sorrow whereto before was but joy and fulness of Thee. Now from Thee, dear God, we are sent, no more to dwell in Thy loving presence lest we, by our new nature, invoke Thy wrath more to than is already sent, and rightly so for we were warned. Dear God! Forgive humanity! Forgive the errors of Thy creation and make a way for us to be with Thee again! Oh precious Savior! One who dwells with the most high and through whom all things were made, deliver us from the fatality of our sin! Free us from the bondage that we have freely brought down upon our heads and upon all those who come after us. We ask not for ourselves, dear eternal One, for what right have we now to stand before Thy infinitude in such a state that we have now descended? No, oh Father of all, we instead appeal to Thy goodness and Thy infinite wisdom and foreknowledge, knowing that we would not stand when once commanded to do so, and thus divined a way back for us Thy creation, for us the pinnacle of all that was made. In Thy great mercy and grace, Thou have foreseen and a path created; a way for us to be with Thee and not affront Thy just case against us. We praise Thee oh God, one eternal, ever steadfast and almighty Creator, for even as we depart from Thee, with shame and guile our only cloths, we go with a promise: A seed from the one who lead us into darkness, shall come and He shall be as the shining sun in His goodness, meekness and love. He shall crush the head of the serpent and though His heel be bruised, that bruise, (Oh wonder of wonders!) shall secure the way into Thy glorious presence once again! And mystery of mystery! That into which angels long to look! The journey complete, the price fully paid, once for all, justice perfectly satisfied, then into an even greater joy and perfection shall we enter, for we shall be like Him and come to a glory greater than Eden! Oh, blessed day, come beloved Savior and Lord! Come quickly!
